Report-Visit to Iran (2016-2017)
Report on visit to Iran by Dr. P. Khosronejad, Associate Director of the Program
Recently (December 2016- January 2017) I visited Iran regarding our new program of Iranian and Persian Gulf Studies at the Oklahoma State University. During this trip I visited the cities of Isfahan, Shiraz, Mashhad, Abadan, and Tehran. During these visits, I had several meetings with the chancellor of the University of Isfahan (Prof. Talebi), directors of the International Relations Office of the Ferdowsi University of Mashhad (Dr. Vahedian) and the University of Shiraz (Dr. Azimfar), and also the president of Khavaran Institute of Higher education in Mashhad (Dr. Mobasheri). We have already signed our MoU for further research and academic collaboration with two of these universities (Isfahan and Khavaran) and also have prepared the draft of similar MoUs for the other above universities.

Office of Shiraz University for academic collaborations with Oklahoma State University.
In this regard, since last year we have been working closely with the Faculty of Literature and Social Science of the University of Isfahan to host six of their PhD students for the period of one semester to join our program at the Oklahoma State University to conduct further research regarding the topics of their PhDs before returning to Isfahan to finish their degrees. During this visit I interviewed and briefed these students and introduced them to our plans for their visit. These six students have already passed the national English exam of the Iranian Ministry of Higher Education and have received their research grants from the same Ministry and will work under my supervision at the OSU. At this stage, considering the new visa issues in the United States, it will be necessary to wait and see how things develop. Nonetheless, hopefully we will be able to host these students for the next fall semester.
During this visit I also had several meetings with the directors of the research institutes and archives of Astan-e Ghods Razavi, Iran National Archive and Library, Institute for Iranian Contemporary Historical Studies, etc. for further academic and research collaboration during which several letters of understanding were signed. Based on these recent meetings, I am happy to announce that I was able to bring back over 10,000 digital documents regarding different aspects of Iranian and Persian Gulf Studies. These documents will form the main source of our very new “Dr. A. Fazel Visual Archive, Media Collection, and Digital Resources (VMD) for Iranian and Persian Gulf Studies”. Recently we have received a very generous donation from Dr. Ali Fazel (CEO Accurate Environmental, Stillwater) in support of the creation of VMD, which will contain tangible and intangible materials and resources regarding contemporary Iran, which will assist OSU faculty members, researchers and students in developing their studies and research regarding Iranian and Persian Gulf Studies.
